Hi From Melly. Yes, Still Around...

It's been a while, I know. I'm not even sure how long it's been since I've posted here.

Slowly, I'm starting to get the itch to blog again, or to return to an online community.
A friend suggested I'd join Facebook. In fact, he wanted me to join his fan club. I have. Yesterday.
So far I'm not really sure what this is all about -- never been one to understand social networking very well -- but for now I'm using it to play chess. So there's definitely a positive.

Another friend, this one an online one whom many of you I'm sure are familiar with, Patry Francis, suggested I'd join goodreads. Goodreads, it seems, is sort of a book review social network of sorts. It sure was fun to start the list of books I've read.
What I found funny, but not surprising was the average rating of the books I've read (the ones I've put in so far anyway) compared to Patry's. My average rating is 3.88 out of 5, while Patry's is 4.57.
The reason this doesn't surprise me is because a) Patry probably sticks to really good books, while I can occasionally -- knowingly -- read a book I don't think is that good (to put it mildly). b) Patry is a much nicer person (yes, I do mean than I).

Anyways, perhaps I'll start blogging again more often, perhaps not. Regardless, if you're ever around those other places, be sure to drop me a line, although I'm still not sure where all this leads to, if anything at all.

I got as far as joining Facebook then decided it would eat into too much time when I should be writing. And I forgot my password anyway!

Hello Melly!
I joined Facebook but then deleted my profile/page. I just don't have the time to maintain another site. Goodreads sounds interesting, tho. I'll check it out.
Welcome back.

I was guilted into joining Facebook by a now-former colleague. It was a huge time-waster for the first couple of weeks, but has now settled into the just-another-tool category.

It's allowed me to reconnect with some old friends and family members, but my blog remains the place where I can write at will. For all of Facebook's features, it's a remarkably shallow experience when you get right down to it.

Doh...must be Monday. Need more tea...

Hi Nienke,
Oh jeez... then Angst one can experience when feeling like "I have to check in on all my blogging friends." It can become a compulsion, an addiction, a source of depression and anxiety.
When it begins to resemble "work" or if "guilt" is anywhere within a hundred miles, I go out on my dock and have a beer. It goes away.
I visit when I want to... that way it falls into the categories of "fun" and "dappling." I'm glad to see that that's what you seem to be doing!
Look forward to seeing you stopping by my blog... I always enjoy your Comments (as well as your Posts)... when it's comfortable and you feel like it...

Yeah, so far Facebook indeed seems like it has the potential to be useless time consuming. I haven't searched for friends from college or what not yet. No time :)

Your links led me to some fine writers blogs. Thanks for those. :-)

Hope to see you pop up every now and then. Don't disappear on us totally!

Hi Mel. :)

Please come back so we can argue about art vs. entertainment, just like the 'old days.'

Hope you feel inspired to keep going with this site, I always like dropping by. I know I find it really hard to stay current with my blog in the summer, when being outside is so much more inviting.

Thanks for the writing links btw, lots of neat new stuff to read.

Hey Eric and Jason, long time ... :)
I'm glad to hear from you!
I'll do my best to either continue here occasionally or somewhere else.

Bhaswati and desert rat, thanks for your support!
