Hi NIenke,
Great Post... I will check out the links (they appear to be very informative). I just peeked at the "Agents, Part II" and will read it carefully this evening. I have yet to have a real good experience with an agent... they either ignore me, won't talk with me, or simply want me to do all their work for them so they can forward things to publishers. I even asked one gentleman if he always outsources his work... to his authors?
If you have any Agents who you would recommend (for romance and mystery), I would appreciate the referral.
Thanks again... as I said, great Post.

Thanks for the great links, Nienke - you have a real knack for finding useful stuff out there in the wilds of cyberspace. I for one really appreciate your efforts :)

Bill - I'm not at the agent stage yet, but I compiled a list of agents from the internet for a friend that I'd be happy to send you, if you're interested...
Writer's Market is also online now, but you have to pay for it: http://www.writersmarket.com/

Great stuff, Nienke - I'm a great fan of Jenny Cruisie's work (and she's another dog lover so she must be good!) so will take a look.

Thanks for posting the links! Very informative stuff and I'll be sharing it with my writer's group.

But I think my fave part of your blog today is the Cicero quote.

You know how much I love quotes!

Hi Hienke,
Thanks for the suggestion and offer. I have a list of 146 agents who I have contacted over the past two years. I could tell you some interesting stories! I'm trying to be patiently persistent... we'll see. The most prevalent thoughts feelings I have experienced were not very encouraging (e.g., most of the agents appear to cream -- they only want proven winners, they want the author to do all the work, etc.). Albeit somewhat tarnished, I do realize that with novels an agent is almost a must in terms of getting with a first-tier publisher (and since I never had such experiences with my textbooks and self-help books, this is quite a challenging experience for me).
Thanks again! (I suppose I can use all the encouragement I can get.)
